On Tuesday February 3rd, Catawba College’s own Pop A Capella (AC) group did a flash mob in the cafeteria. A Capella is a form a singing where people make all the music without instruments.

Once they entered the cafeteria, they surprised the cafeteria by singing two popular hits from NBC’s hit show “The Sing Off.” They did an arrangement of “Under Pressure” by Queen and a F.U.N. medley featuring the bands three most popular songs. They also featured soloists Lauren Stacks, Micah Shapiro, Bree Gardner, Jonathon Lodgek, and Patrick Moore.

The Pop AC group was just created this semester and is one of the newest classes that the music department has to offer. Catawba’s Pop AC program is now one of two programs in the state of North Carolina where the only other Pop AC program is offered at NC State University. They have plans to compete at the national Pop AC competition in Kentucky next spring. Many of the members are excited about this new endeavor by Catawba College’s music department and expect great things in the future.
