William Shakespeare, the famous playwright, usually wrote serious plays centered around a theme of tragedy.  However, a couple of Shakespeare’s plays had a theme consisting of tragedy but the way the tragedy occurred was considered to be comedic.  One of these comedic plays is “A Comedy of Errors.” “A Comedy of Errors” is Shakespeare’s shortest play.

“A Comedy of Errors” is the story of a family, consisting of the husband, wife, and twin boys, that were separated by a shipwreck.  Each of the boys grow up with a servant, who also happen to be twins, and complications ensue when the family, unknowingly, becomes reunited.

During some performances, a Comedy of Errors includes local references; however, local politicians are “safe from barbs and ridicule -this time” according to the theater department.  The theater department had altered the sets and costumes to become more “Picasso-esque.”

Catawba’s Theater Department will be performing Shakespeare’s play, “A Comedy of Errors,” February 24th – 28th at 7:30pm in the Hedrick Little Theater.  Catawba’s theater production of “A Comedy of Errors” is directed by Dayna Anderson. The play is rated G for general audience meaning it is safe for children to watch as well as adults.  The price of admission is $12 for adults, $10 for non-Catawba students and senior citizens, and free for Catawba students and faculty.  Those who wish to attend Catawba’s production of “A Comedy of Errors” can order tickets and reserve their seats in advance.
