One of the most valuable lessons I learned during college was understanding how to let God have control of every aspect of my life, even in the little things. During college, I learned how to give God everything I was dealing with from financial issues I may have been facing, to SGA elections I was nervous about, and especially exams that I knew I didn’t study for, but was praying for a miracle. Releasing my burdens and worries unto the Lord was honestly the only way I could handle everything that was happening in my college career.

You always see memes about being stressed in college and having to choose between sleep, good grades, and friends, but I promise you that is NOT a life you have to live. Throughout my day, if I found myself stressed or worried about something, I would stop what I was doing, pray and say “Lord, I release this burden unto you, I don’t want it and I know its not something I am not meant to carry.”

Stress comes easily throughout college because we have so much going on with classes and after school activities, while also trying to discover our purpose in life. Also, the flesh aspect of this world will tell you that if you aren’t stressed then you aren’t doing enough, or not working hard… FALSE! You can work hard and have peace of mind and don’t allow anyone to shame you for not being stressed. If anything shows them how you keep your peace, let that be an example. The Lord tells us “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved” (Psalm 55:22). Allowing God to carry your burdens not only frees up your spirit but also lets God know that you trust him.

College is hard enough, and for me, it was one of the greatest spiritual journeys because the Lord taught me how to trust him and allow him to lead my life. I learned that letting God lead doesn’t make me weak for giving up control, but strong for trusting in the Lord.

So to leave you with some encouragement…college can be overwhelming and exhausting, but through prayer and release, you have the power to turn your burdens into blessings. Release your worries unto God so he can release peace unto you!
