College freshmen start off the year extremely excited for the new opportunities and experiences in store at Catawba. College on its own is something that is difficult to understand fully without experiencing it firsthand. Being somewhere new can be overwhelming and quite confusing. The workloads are very different for freshmen as they are accustomed to the ways in high school.

Most freshmen seek to be involved in every club they can. The club fair was a place where everyone could really get the feel for what college clubs are all about. Many freshmen attended the club fair with the hopes of submerging themselves into the college lifestyle. Clubs are a great way for the incoming freshmen to get involved and the meet new people of all ages and interests.

An extreme change for freshmen is having the “cafe.” We were all used to having our mothers make us food or only eating one school-provided meal each day. Now the school food is what we live off of because we’re all broke college students.

Catawba has many activities and social events to get everyone involved in student life. I believe the best events for socializing and campus fun are the Friday events. Students receive the chance to meet so many new people and have a great time. The best part about it is that these events are free to participate in. I connected with people from different schools, and it was a great way to meet up with friends and have a great time.

College is completely different than high school, but I believe that we freshman are getting the hang of it all one step at a time.
