Homesickness can be a terrible thing in college but luckily for the students of Catawba, this weekend kicked off their annual Family Weekend event. Complete with fun, food, and festivities, the last two days were centered around family and community bonding here at the school. If you could look past the gloomy skies, wet hair, clothes, shoes, and everything else, you would see a number of students and parents getting to enjoy a weekend meant for hugging, kissing, and reconnecting with loved ones. This year’s celebration was packed with a wide variety of activities to keep in the dreariest of folks happy and content.
It all started Friday, September 25, with small rounds of mini golf (no pun intended), photo booths, and bamboo stations for families to partake in. Afterwards, the Artist Development Program redefined showmanship with electric performances by Lexi Trader, Maddie Assel, and Casey Rae Presley in Hoke Music Hall. Students and parents alike hooped and hollered for the high note heavy hitters as they tore up the stage with a catalog of original songs.
The rain and weather continued into Saturday’s tailgating party which drew in a large crowd of families for food and football. The outdoor conditions conspired against Catawba however; resulting in a loss 17-0 for the school and an advance for the Wingate Bulldogs. This did not damper our spirits, families continued to enjoy their time with each others company. After a long, rainy day, families were invited to partake in the Sunday service in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel before parents had to make the trek back home. Altogether, Family Weekend was a huge success and say what you want about the weather, but nothing can ruin the good old Catawba family reunion!
