Sunday afternoons on any college campus usually involve gloomy faces as students begin to realize that the weekend is coming to a close and that they must prepare for the upcoming week of classes. However, the Student Government Association, Philomathean Society, Helen Foil Beard women’s society, and Catawba cheerleaders wanted to change the attitude on campus this past Sunday, September the 21st, by hosting the first annual Catawba Color Splash.

The Color Splash is an idea based off of The Color Run™, also known as “the Happiest 5k on the Planet.” However, unlike The Color Run™, the Catawba Color Splash was free for all students and the first 200 students even received a free white t-shirt to help bring out the full effect of getting covered in bright powder. The run began at the sand volleyball courts and then went around the practice fields and Whitley Softball Field and then back up to the sand volleyball courts. As participants ran and walked in the run other students coated them in brightly colored powder.

After the run, students received free pizza, miniature donuts and ice cream. Students also had the chance to wipe off all of the colored dust by sliding down a homemade slip n slide. Students could also participate in a sand volleyball tournament or a water balloon toss tournament. Some of the senior Artist Development Program (ADP) members, who sang a mixture of their own songs and covers of popular songs, provided special music for the occasion.
