The musical Chicago, based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, is currently being performed at the Meroney Theatre in Salisbury, NC. Upcoming performance dates include April 11th and 12th at 7:30 PM. Directed by Tod A. Kubo, the show features some of Catawba’s very own, including Jordan Clifton as Billy Flynn, Jura Davis as Mary Sunshine, and Lauren Gaskill as part of the talented ensemble.

The energy in the theatre was high on the night of April 1st, which was a special preview night attended by students from surrounding high schools and many from Catawba College. There were many in the audience who had seen the musical before, whether they had seen it on stage or the film adaptation, and when the fan-favorite musical number “Cell Block Tango” began, the crowd went wild. The number talked most about after the show was “We Both Reached for the Gun,” which was performed by Karen Christensen as Roxie Hart with Jordan Clifton as Billy Flynn singing most of the lyrics as a ventriloquist. The synchronization of Christensen and Clifton was flawless and made for one of the most memorable performances of the night.

If you want to enjoy these musical numbers and the rest of the show, there’s still time! Tickets cost $15 for students and $18 for adults.
