Catawba College hosted the first round of games for the women’s basketball SAC Division 2 conference. Our own Catawba lady Indians faced off against Carson-Newman for a chance to move on to the next round of championship games. There are three games in total before the final winning team is decided for this year, 2015.
Despite a technical call at the beginning of the game that gave Carson-Newman a two-point advantage, the lady Indians took an astounding lead in the first half of the game. Catawba scored 41 points and Carson-Newman scored 21. The technical was against Catawba due to the fact that one of the shot clocks has been broken for the past couple of games. Thankfully, construction on an entirely renovated gymnasium will begin over spring break.
The student section was packed for the free “Catawba Crazies” t-shirts from student affairs and other miscellaneous Catawba freebies. For the half-time show, the cheerleaders performed a dance routine to the hit Taylor Swift song “Shake It Off.”
Due to an impeccable string of making three point shots, and out-standing defense, the score climbed exponentially for Catawba in the second half. This led to a great win for the ladies with a final score of 79-52. The ladies moved on to the next conference game where they lost to Anderson.
