This past Friday Catawba College hosted a student campaign picnic, Chartwells closed the cafeteria doors and moved everything outside where they offered delicious food such as black bean burgers, BBQ chicken, and BBQ pork burgers accompanied by corn on the cob, homemade chips, fresh lemonade, fruit punch, and incredible desserts! The event also included music played by the Wigwam club. They also had a free samples station that gave away protein samples and PowerAde samples, and a station where students could play the newest FIFA soccer on game systems. The coolest thing about this picnic, was that almost everything used in the event was either recycled or made of biodegradable materials, and all waste would be dumped in a composted waste facility. What an amazing way for Catawba to go green! President Lewis made an appearance at this incredible event and he spoke about this new campaign that Catawba is starting, it’s very simple, a student signs up and receives a small piggy bank, he or she then gathers any possible change or donations given by friends, family, or faculty. The donations then go to any designated club or organization they choose. But here is the cool part, the top three students who raise the most money will win $500 in prizes, and the class that raises the most money, will be recognized at the awards convocation! The funds must be turned in homecoming week to the development office, if you have any questions, please visit student services for more details!
