On Tuesday, March 31st, Catawba College hosted its first annual Baseball White-Out game. To encourage students to attend the game, the first 100 students through the entrance got a free shirt, soda can, and the typical baseball snacks, Cracker Jacks and sunflower seeds. In total, 281 people showed up for the game including people from the community and those supporting the opposing team, Pfeiffer University.
Unfortunately for Catawba, Pfeiffer had a great lead in their first and second innings, scoring three runs each time. In the third inning, Catawba started to fight harder and Pfeiffer only got 2 runs in. By the time the 3rd inning ended, the score was Pfeiffer 5, Catawba 0, but that did not dampen the teams’ spirits. The fourth inning ended with neither team scoring. Pfeiffer also did not score in the 5th inning, but Catawba Freshman Luke Setzer made an astounding homerun, which sent him and his two teammates that were already on base to home plate.
Sadly though, it was tough for the Indians to take back the lead that the Falcons had created at the beginning of the game. Pfeiffer ended up scoring another three runs in the 6th inning, but did not score in the 7th, 8th or 9th innings. Catawba managed one point in the 8th inning, but it was not enough to take the lead. The game ended 11-4 for the Pfeiffer Falcons.
