The Dixie Classic Fair is one of the largest fairs in North Carolina. The Dixie Classic is an annual event held in Winston Salem that lasts roughly a week and a half. This year, 2015, the Dixie Classic Fair will be held from October 2nd to October 11th. The fair has been loved and enjoyed by those both far and near since the 1950’s. The great thing about the Dixie Classic is that there is a something for everyone to do. They have some of the standard fair sections like the rides, food vendors, and livestock, vegetable and craft judging. However, they also have a tent that hosts various shows, have an on site blacksmith, a tiny village, and a large warehouse where different companies set up a booth to show off and sell some of their products. Even the standard parts of the Dixie Classic fair are larger than your typical county fair because they are supersized. For instance, there are three large barns that are used to play host to the all the variety of things that are judged. There is also usually over one hundred food venders so even the pickiest eaters can find something they enjoy eating. One of my favorite parts of the Dixie Classic Fair is the onsite blacksmiths in the Yesterday Village section of the fair that allow fair-goers to watch the blacksmith’s craft various items that are available for purchase. Yesterday Village also includes a church, bakery, wood carver, pottery shack, and hosts an antique tractor show. While the Dixie Classic fair does not have any college student discount days, they are going to offer wristband days on Monday October 5th, Tuesday October 6th, and Thursday October 8th where you can ride all the rides for twenty-five dollars plus the cost of admission which is around eight dollars if you pre-order your tickets by October 1st. On Wednesday October 7th, the fair is offering free admission to those that bring 5 cans or 5 boxes of non-perishable Lowes Foods house brand food items. Parking can sometimes be hard to come by at the designated fair parking; however, there are plenty of organizations around the fairgrounds that offer additional parking for a small fee. The Dixie Classic fair is loads of fun for people of all ages and backgrounds, hope to see you there!
