From group projects, to final presentations and last tests before the actual “final exams.” Getting enough sleep, reminding yourself to grab a bite to eat, keeping up with your friends, and actually remembering to breathe and remain stress-free. This is what has been going through the minds of students across the U.S., especially right here at our very own Catawba College. Preparing for finals week and staying focused is a really tough thing to do. Prioritizing and debating whether or not it is a good idea to go out is what students have been asking themselves.

I asked two students what time they have been getting to sleep this week. Hannah Cruse and Lexi Robinson, both said past 1:30 a.m. I’ve seen several students keeping little snacks handy in order to keep them on track and focused. Many of my peers say their favorite place to grab some caffeine has been Dunkin Donuts on Jake Alexander Blvd. They offer Catawba student’s a discount after presenting an I.D. Another popular thing for students is headphones to listen to their music. The Corriher-Linn-Black Library has been packed everyday this week and getting a study room upstairs has been actually quite difficult!

Catawba has made it possible for students to have several alternatives for study places. The 3rd Place Coffeehouse, located on the lower-level of the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel has offered students another quiet option with free coffee! The e-mail was sent to all students regarding the hours they will be open. Lastly, on Sunday Dec. 4th, St. Luke’s Church in Downtown Salisbury was open from 2-10 p.m. allowing students to even get away from capmpus with a free homemade meal and wi-fi.

Catawba students have picked up on little tricks and study methods to help them make it through this week. They know what works well for them and know what does not! Good luck to everyone and we will see you in 2015.
