Friday’s Catawbapalooza event was the annual DAS-Delphi luau. Usually this event is held at the volleyball courts, but since there was a high chance of rain this year, the event was held in front of the student center. Although it was a little crowded in front of the student center, the event still went off flawlessly without a massive rainfall. This year, the event served barbecue from College Barbecue about a block from campus, fresh squeezed lemonade, fruit, Dippin’ Dots ice cream, and sweet tea. The giveaways for this event were a multitude of leis and a commemorative cup. The cool thing about the cups is that they started out as an opaque color and when they became cold they changed into a different color such as blue, orange, yellow, and black.
For entertainment, there was a hula-hoop competition and a limbo competition with free gift cards for the winners. There were also corn hole boards for students to practice for the intramural corn hole tournament at Saturday’s Catawbapalooza carnival. A steel drum band played smooth and catchy music for the event, which students loved to dance and sing along to. There was even a short hula dance performance by Sophomores Blake Brewer, Justin Burroughs, and the Chaplin and Vice-President of the college, Dr. Kenneth Clapp, that gave all of the students a good laugh.
