The Student Government Association hosted a Christmas Tree Lighting event in the student center. If you didn’t get a chance to go, then you sure missed out on what many called “family time.” Everyone felt as if they were at home when little do they know that Catawba is their home.
This event really put everyone in the holiday spirit; they had so many great things to do at this event. Some of these things included making your own sugar cookies and make your own Christmas ornaments. They also had a hot dog station, a smores station, and fun holiday music playing in the background. Many people, like my friends and I, were singing our little hearts out whenever we knew the song, and other students joined in as well.
What students thought was the most special thing that really made it feel like home, was the fact that many faculty and staff brought their family with them. The best part of the whole night was that Santa Clause himself was there! He took pictures with the students and a few even told him what they wanted for Christmas. I’m pretty sure most of us would’ve asked to pass our finals. I decided to interview some of the students at this event and asked them what they wanted for Christmas, Here is what they said;
“Hmm, I don’t know… I want a horse…no a castle… no a horse castle!”
-Sylvia Parra
“Aww man, an X-box 1 I guess.”
-Kyle Kitchens
“World Peace!”
-Ashley Bain
“Lower tuition rates!”
-Deep Dave
Then I asked them what their plans for the holidays were;
“Going to go see my family that live in Texas, maybe I’ll drop a mixtape whilst in Texas.”
-Alexis Beverly
“Hopefully, it will be snowing, and I’ll be sipping hot chocolate with my mom and my theatre stock family from home.”
-Emily Owens
Other students were just asking for the Christmas miracle of being able to pass finals and survive the actual week of finals. And as college students, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we can all agree that it is every college student’s number one thing on their Christmas wish list. Many students are traveling out of the country to go home with their family, so please be careful and have a very safe flight or car ride. We hope you guys enjoy the holidays and please stay safe.
